For surface
soil or stains from industrial fallout, tree sap, insecticides,
chimney fumes, etc. use an ordinary non-abrasive household detergent.
One-third cup of mild detergent (Example: Tide) plus 2/3 cup
of a household cleaner (Example: Soilax) to one gallon of water
is recommended. Use a soft rag, sponge, or soft bristle brush
with gentle rubbing action. DO NOT RUB VIGOROUSLYthis
can cause glossy areas over the finish. A rotary soft bristle
brush equipped with an extension handle is useful to reach higher
areas. Wash the house from top to bottom to minimize streaking.
Immediately rinse all washed surfaces with a garden hose.
Mildew
In some locations, mildew may be an issue. It appears as black
spots on the surface and is usually first detected under eaves,
in porch enclosures and other areas protected from rainfall.
To remove, prepare a solution as follows and use the washing
and rinsing instructions outlined above:
1/3 Cup
Detergent (Example: Tide)
2/3 Cup
Household Cleaner (Example: Soilax)
1 Qt.
5% Sodium Hypochlorite* (Example: Clorox)
3 Qt.
Water
* CAUTION:
GREATER CONCENTRATIONS MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SIDING FINISH.
AVOID EYE AND SKIN CONTACT. FOLLOW PREVIOUS INSTRUCTIONS FOR CLEANING
AND RINSING.
Stains
If stains cannot be removed by normal household detergents,
request a special siding cleaner from your siding contractor.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE ABRASIVE OR SOLVENT TYPE CLEANERS OR PAINT
REMOVER. THESE MATERIALS MAY SOFTEN OR ACTUALLY REMOVE YOUR
SIDING FINISH. WHEN USING ANY CHEMICAL AGENTS, OBSERVE MANUFACTURER'S
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND AVOID EYE AND SKIN CONTACT.
Test all
cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous surface before applying
to broader areas.
